Sports and Recreation

I recently heard about an MBA program that sounded interesting: Sports and Recreation management. Wow, what an ideal job this program could lead to! I was curious about the subjects the program included.
I found that the core subjects were the same as other MBA programs–management, finance, leadership, business writing—but with an additional focus on the sporting world. For instance, MBA Sports Management courses might include:
- Sports Economics
- Sports Ethics
- Sports and the Marketplace
- Sports Marketing
- Sports Sponsorship
Many people grow up dreaming of landing a career in the sports’ world. While very few will make it as professional athletes, MBA Sports and Recreation management programs could open the door to many other exciting jobs in the field.

As you point out this seems to make the best use of the joys of an MBA program in three different ways. The first is as you say, the basis of all MBA programs, the nuts and bolts of planning, finance, group working, business plans and so on. All of the subjects that a specialist needs to know to become a general manager.
Then there’s the industry specific knowledge, and as you’ve pointed out there’s definitely a trend in MBA programs to do this, to make them industry specific.
The third one is something you’ve been pointing out a lot, that the networks you create in an MBA program can be of great use in furthering your career.
Looks like this one touches all three bases!
